I started The Doggie Shop in 2018, using my baking and creativity skills. We had a Lhasa Apso named Gizmo who was my inspiration in creating what I call a doggie buffet! That is because Gizmo demanded a variety of foods and flavors and would refuse to eat certain things that didn't meet his approval!
I have a holistic approach to pet care with my own dogs. I have carefully chosen organic ingredients for my homemade dog treats, including healthy grains, meat broths, and fruits, along with herbs and spices that not only offer health benefits, but are also very pleasing to the palate! I also use honey from Bee's Jamboree in several of my treats. Most recently, I have added organ meats, along with organic mushrooms from Heartland Organics.
In addition to baking healthy dog treats to make all the doggies happy, I especially love packaging my treats and displaying them for the humans. I enjoy cooking, walking our dogs, maintaining our 120 gallon aquarium, and learning more about holistic health for both dogs and humans. I also have a home office space, with a peaceful atmosphere that includes three dog beds for my pack, where we begin each day with coffee and soothing sounds. Frieda , Bear and Mindy very much enjoy beginning their day in a meditative state.
Lastly, I love being a part of The Lockport Community Farmer's Market family, displaying my treats, meeting the doggies, especially when they put their front paws on my table, and seeing the community come together to enjoy local shopping, music, and socializing!
Gizmo 1999 - 2017
I started supplementing cooked food for my dogs many years ago. I feed Life's Abundance Dog Food for breakfast and human food for dinner. Dinner consisted of boneless chicken breast, sweet potatoes or butternut squash, and broccoli, zucchini or cucumber slices. One evening, I was sitting on the couch eating organic chicken that I had cooked for myself, and Gizmo, our Lhasa Apso, would not leave me alone. I had already fed him, yet he was practically on my plate wanting MY chicken. I couldn’t resist sharing with him, and later told my husband the story. His response was that Gizmo was telling me to stop feeding him that other garbage chicken and to feed him organic chicken too! Gizmo got his wish and made me realize that dogs need organic foods too ! We fed him all organic foods after that, and Gizmo lived to be 18 years old, and had no disease at the time of his passing. I now feed my pack a great variety of "human foods" and Life's Abundance dog food as a little side dish. They really appreciate the aroma of their dinner cooking in the crockpot, whether it's chicken or pork roast, both seasoned with dill weed. Ground turkey is another favorite seasoned with parsley, sage and thyme.

I am especially proud of the medicinal properties of our specialty treats that are made with desiccated organs, combined with mushrooms from Heartland Organics. Every treat has been approved by our more than 30 Official Taste Tasters with great enthusiasm !
